STUDENTS and staff at St. Mary’s College in Crosby are celebrating another summer of top-class A-level results.
Building on the high standards of previous years more than half of the ‘class of 2026’ (52%) achieved 3 or more passes at A*, A or B grades.
Overall more than 1/3 of all passes (35%) were at the highest A* and A grades and almost 3/4 (71%) were at A*, A or B grade.
In addition, this year’s results also include a significant number of ‘straight A’ students with almost 1/5 of candidates (18%) achieving 3 or more A* or A passes.
In joint pole position in terms of results at the Crosby school this summer are 18-year-olds Luke Pomeroy from Blundellsands and Ben Bearon from Ormskirk, both of whom achieved A* passes in all 4 of their A-level subjects.
With passes in Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics Luke will be heading to Durham University to study Geography.
And on the back of his top grades in Classics, Latin, Mathematics and Further Mathematics Ben is planning to study Classics, also at Durham.
Luke commented:- “I am thrilled with my results and would like to thank all of my teachers for their support. I am going to Durham University to study Geography and hope to then pursue a career where I can help protect British wildlife.”
Meanwhile, Ben said:- “I am really happy with my results and thankful to the St. Mary’s community for its fantastic encouragement and support over these last 2 years, especially from my four great A-level teachers!”
The top-performing girl student at St. Mary’s this summer is Anna Quint, also 18, from Crosby who recorded 3 A* passes in English Literature, Music and Religious Studies plus a C in German. Anna will be going on to study Law at the University of Manchester.
Anna commented:- “I am delighted with my results. I was really nervous but it’s great to see my hard work has paid off. I’m going to study Law at the University of Manchester and hope to become a barrister or a judge and make a positive impact on the world.”
Elsewhere amongst this summer’s candidates at St. Mary’s Head Girl Evie Clark from Southport achieved passes in Biology, Chemistry and Classics, paving the way for her to study Medicine at Edinburgh University.
And Head Boy John Tattersall from Liverpool is starting a Consultant Quantity Surveying apprenticeship at global property and construction consultancy Gleeds following passes in Art, Business and Religious Studies.
St. Mary’s College Principal, Mike Kennedy, commented:- “This is the best set of A-level results we have seen since the summer of 2021, when formal exams were cancelled and students were awarded Teacher Assessed Grades, instead of traditional exam grades. We are all very proud of our students whose hard work, commitment, resilience and positivity is reflected in these results. It’s also important to pay tribute to our staff and the students’ families for the all-important support they have provided along the way. The ‘class of 2026’ have been part of the St. Mary’s community for many years, and of course we are sorry to see them go, but we wish them all every success in the wide range of future educational and career paths they have chosen.”
